Come Children, Remember George Washington

Come, children, please gather round.

Remember, with me, our nation’s first president, General George Washington. Today is his birthday.

Do you know any songs about Washington? If not, I want to introduce you to this one:

“George Washington was a very good man,

A very good man indeed.

He could’ve told a lie but he said,

‘Uh uh, the truth is what we need.’

An honorable man for his word was sure

A man of great faith, for his heart was pure.

He was a very good, very good, very good, very good man indeed.

George Washington was a very brave man,

A very brave man indeed.

He could’ve stayed home but he said,

‘Uh uh, a general’s what we need.’

He wouldn’t give in to adversity.

His strength led his men on to victory.

He was a very brave, very brave, very brave, very brave man indeed.

George Washington was a very wise man,

A very wise man indeed.

He could’ve been the king

But he said, ‘Uh uh, a king’s not what we need.’

He wouldn’t be treated like royalty.

He wouldn’t be called, “Your Majesty.”

He was a very wise, very wise, very wise, very wise man indeed.”

That’s a great song about a really noble man. It has a really catchy tune, too. I can’t find a decent rendition of it online, but someone online suggested it followed this format and these notes:

George/Wash/ing/ton

He/was/a/very good/very good/very good/very good/man indeed.

If you have a piano nearby, try to pounce out these notes:

E/E/D/C,E/E/D/C,B/C/D/E/C/D!

That might help you catch the tune a bit. I’m sorry I can’t do better.

There is an area where I can do better, and it’s in helping you learn a bit more about Washington.

This is a great clip (under 5 minutes) that tells three very important things about George Washington and shows the true disposition of his heart.

Have a listen, yeah?

Three really impressive things about Washington, huh? Especially giving up his power and returning to his farm. When he was summoned, he was ready. When he was needed, he didn’t shrink. He didn’t seek power, and he wasn’t corrupted by it. That is incredibly rare.

Many in our nation have forgotten Washington’s greatness or most tragically, have never learned of it in the first place. When you meet such people, I want you to know something of General Washington that you can share with those who don’t know or who have forgotten or been brainwashed to believe lies.

Washington was one very, very, very good man, beloved of and trusted by God to establish our great nation.

One of my favorite quotes attributed to Washington is this one:

“Happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected.”

If you want to be happy, dear ones, fulfill your moral duty to God and to others. It is the best way to live.

I love you, and I love Geroge Washington!

Unto all the world: Happy Birthday to you, General Washington! I salute you!

Have you ever read ‘Seven Miracles That Saved America’, a book written by Chris Stewart and Ted Stewart? There is a chapter in this book about George Washington and miracles that helped win the Revolutionary War. SO interesting!!!
I love the clip that you included, and I wish I could hear how the song goes. Thank you for writing about all this. 🙂

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting, LaDawn.
Not the book but the CD. Wow, talk about the hand of God!
