My good mom shared one of her and her mother’s favorite songs with me: “I Believe,” as sung by Frankie Laine. As I listened to this song (I remember hearing it years ago but was not overly familiar with it), I admired Laine’s flawless voice and even more so, loved the passion with which he declared tender reminders of tenants of his testimony.
Frankie Laine’s singing of “I Believe” was absolutely spectacular. His voice resounded in every perfect way as the message of believing was unequivocally declared.
He sang:
“I believe for every drop of rain that falls
A flower grows
I believe that somewhere
In the darkest night
A candle glows
I believe for everyone who goes astray
Someone will come to show the way
I believe, I believe
I believe above the storm
The smallest prayer will still be heard
I believe that someone
in the great somewhere
Hears every word
Every time I hear a newborn baby cry
Or touch a leaf, or see the sky
Then I know why I believe
Every time I hear a newborn baby cry
Or touch a leaf or see the sky
Then I know why I believe”
This song is just so very lovely. Here’s a link for a listen, should you desire. Your listening will constitute two of the best minutes of your day today:
As I listened to Laine’s song, I thought of King Benjamin’s words thousands of years prior. He admonished:
“Believe in God;
Believe that he is,
And that he created all things,
Both in heaven and in earth;
Believe that he has all wisdom,
And all power,
Both in heaven and in earth;
Believe that man doth not comprehend all the things
Which the Lord can comprehend.”
(Mosiah 4:9)
And Alma’s words to Korihor:
“…all things denote there is a God;
Yea, even the earth,
And all things that are upon the face of it…”
(Alma 30:44)
All things.
Rain. Flowers. Candles. Friends that love. Heard prayers. A newborn baby’s cry. A leaf’s design. The immense, towering over us sky.
All of these. And so much more. Reasons why I believe.
Unto all the world: I believe. Yes, I, too, believe.

The version of this song that I grew up with was sung by a group called ‘The Bachelors’. I would sing right along with them. Thank you for resurrecting that memory for me! And know that I BELIEVE!!
I know you believe, and I love it.
Oh how fun!
Good memory for sure.
Thanks for reading, dear friend.
