Last Sunday during sacrament meeting, my ward’s choir sang a tender song that I hadn’t, as yet, heard. The song is called, “I Testify.” The words were written by David Larsen and the music by Janice Kapp Perry.
If I understood the choir director correctly, she said that these lyrics were written based on a testimony vocalized by Elder Holland.
How special.
Here are the lyrics:
“I testify the Book of Mormon is the word of God;
That God himself preserved these words we call the iron rod –
This iron rod will lead us safely to the tree of life,
Where we can taste the precious fruit which is the love of Christ.
I testify the Book of Mormon brings us near to Christ;
A second witness that He lives, an added source of light –
It speaks of when Christ visited and taught His other sheep,
And how they felt his wounded hands and worshipped at His feet.
I testify that Joseph Smith was raised up for this cause;
To translate and to bring to light this record sent from God –
I testify that he was called by God while still a youth,
And sealed his witness with his blood establishing the truth.
I testify the Book of Mormon is God’s gift to us;
A second testament of Christ that speaks as from the dust –
I bear my witness it is true with all my pow’r and might,
And pray that all the world may know these are the words of Christ.”
I would like it recorded this day at Untoalltheworld that I, too, have a testimony that I want to share. I am not musically inclined and do not possess the skills to put it to music. However,
I testify…
That God is our Father, and He loves us,
That Jesus is the Christ, and He died and rose again to bridge the separating gap of sin and death,
That exaltation is a promised reality for the faithful,
That Joseph was the glorious prophet of the Restoration,
That holy writ leads us to Christ, and Christ takes us home to the Father,
That we have a marvelous prophet on earth today who speaks as God’s mouthpiece,
That there is light to fight and combat and overcome darkness,
That lasting hope is found in Christ,
That temple covenants save and succor,
That Christ saw something wonderful in each of us – enough to shed His precious blood for us,
That The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ’s church restored,
That it will be more exquisite than we can imagine for the faithful,
That God’s promises are sure,
That life is beautiful,
That truth sets us free.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Unto all the world: I, too, testify!
One response to “I, Too, Testify”
Amen! AMEN!!! 🙂
