Mother Earth

I love our Mother Earth. It pains me deeply to see her desecrated with wickedness, litter, and carelessness. I am eager for the day she will be made glorious.

Two little poems to honor her today on Earth Day.

Homage to Mother Earth

Have you ever considered thanking a thing?

It is to Mother Earth we ought to gratefully sing, sing, sing!

Many anthems of praise for an aged Mother who houses and nourishes us all

She is an entity that is fulfilling her Maker’s present call

She isn’t just a lifeless thing, devoid of purpose and plan

Oh no! Among so much, to aid in the comfort and living of man.

She who gifts us with presents galore

Invites us to respect and honor her all the more.

Where to begin to show our appreciation and adoration?

How about some sea and land dedication?

No more trash, no more litter please oh please.

Let our sweet Mother all her beauty reveal, unfettered by careless sleaze.

She lives and has a soul you know.

Her eternal glory she will not forego!

Once she cried to ancient Enoch, “Wo, wo is me!

When shall I rest? I am pained. I am weary.”

Can’t we see?

She doesn’t like the filthiness that goes out from her.

She yearns for righteousness for sure.

Could we offer Her a more sanctified version of self and kin?

Help her to rest under the staggering weight of humanity’s sins?

Let’s pause today to consider anew what you and I can do

For our faithful Mother who has been to us so amazingly true.

Surely there is something we can give in return

To help sweet Mother Earth less yearn.

Oh dear Mother Earth, like Enoch, we weep for you.

As you know, someday you will be glorious and new.

For now, while you endure your present pains, know that we see you more than simply a thing.

You are our collective Mother, and to you great homage we bring!

My, what a gift you are –

One that has so long endured

The joys and tragedies of humanity.

Hoping for something better from us,

Eager to release the filth and embrace the good,

Remembering that you, too, are living

Earth, Mother Earth!

At times – too many times – we fail you.

Rest – be assured – is forthcoming for you;

The greatest for you is yet to come.

Heaven’s God will reward you for all you’ve had to suffer. Someday it shall be made up to you, and you will be glorious! Oh, may that day hasten!

Unto all the world: take care of Mother Earth!

I love your thoughts! Earth IS a living soul! This gives me pause, to think about treating it with love, as I love my neighbor. 🙂

  2. In Greek mythology mother Gaea is earth and Uranus is the sky God, he sends down rain (semen) impregnates Mother Earth and life springs forth from her! Crazy Greek Myths, but I loved this in the symbolism and connection to life.
